{"id":2518,"date":"2019-11-19T18:48:37","date_gmt":"2019-11-19T18:48:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/studiocns.org\/portfolio\/?p=2518"},"modified":"2020-02-04T03:51:57","modified_gmt":"2020-02-04T03:51:57","slug":"indigenous-peoples-day-philly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/studiocns.org\/portfolio\/indigenous-peoples-day-philly\/","title":{"rendered":"Indigenous Peoples Day Philly 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>An annual Celebration and Teach-in that we co-organize every October 12th in the city of Philadelphia to commemorate the indigenous traditions, cultures, and resistances of the Americas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Started: October 12th, 2017 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Website: <a href=\"https:\/\/ipdphilly.org\">https:\/\/ipdphilly.org <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"has-text-color wp-block-heading\" style=\"color:#00c5d1\">Background<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2017, our first &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/482647775441578\/\">Indigenous Peoples Day, Celebration and Teach-In<\/a>  &#8221; took place at the Perelman Building of the Philadelphia Museum of Art  and it honored the Lenni-Lenape today, on whose ancestral territory we  stand, and celebrated the multi-ethnic community of Indigenous Peoples  of the Americas living in the Philadelphia region (American Indians,  Native Americans, First Nations (Pueblos Originarios), Native Mexicans,  Alaskan Natives, and Native Hawaiians). It featured speakers from the  The Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Tribal Nation, Ramapough Lunaape Nation,  Taino Council Guatu Ma Cu a Boriken , Mexicas and local organizations  Ollin Yoliztli Calmecac, Natives at Penn, and Quechua Penn. Also, it featured dancers and drummers from the Aztec\/Mexica community, the  Nanticoke Indian Dance Troupe and Tide Water Agency Drummers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On October 12<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp; and 13<sup>th<\/sup> of 2018, our committee featured the work of the Nanticoke Lenni Lenape, Mexica, and Taino community. At the Friends Center, we had Speakers and performers highlighted Lenape Tribal history, culture, religion, and contemporary concerns, the Ta\u00edno identity, and cultural development among Puerto Ricans and their homeland Borik\u00e9n\/Puerto Rico, Andean music using native South American instruments, and genocidal \u201cremoval\u201d practices. At the Hunting Park, the mini-powwow featured prayers and celebrations with drummers, a hoop dancer, a grass dancer, a women&#8217;s\u2019 fancy dancer, an Andean musician, Ta\u00edno dancers, Aztec dancers, and inter-tribal dances. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On October 12th of 2019, we celebrated this date of culture and resilience at the Penn Treaty Park of Philadelphia. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>An annual Celebration and Teach-in that we co-organize every October 12th in the city of Philadelphia to commemorate the indigenous traditions, cultures, and resistances of the Americas.
